MassMutual New York State launches nonprofit to help children
MASSMUTUAL NEW YORK STATE LAUNCHES NONPROFIT TO HELP CHILDREN LIVING WITH MAJOR ILLNESSES AND DISABILITIES MAKE MEMORIES WITH LOVED ONES
Making Memories That Last Forever, Inc. to benefit children battling pediatric cancer, disabilities, and other life-threatening conditions in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse
MassMutual New York State has announced today the launch of a nonprofit to support children across New York State who are living with long-term illnesses and disabilities. Making Memories That Last Forever, Inc. (Making Memories) will provide essential funds to help patients and their families create special moments as they strive to overcome major health hurdles.
As one of the largest insurance providers in New York State, MassMutual has long been a contributing corporate citizen with more than a century of service in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. The creation of the nonprofit was inspired by the outpouring of support from MassMutual team members when Rosemary DiLeo, wife of MassMutual New York State’s CEO Joseph DiLeo, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May of 2019.
“It was an incredibly challenging time for my family, and it’s difficult to express the amount of gratitude and appreciation I have for my friends and colleagues at MassMutual,” said Joseph DiLeo, MassMutual New York State’s CEO and co-founder of Making Memories That Last Forever. “Through Rosemary’s fight with leukemia, we truly gained an understanding of how important it is to create shared moments with your loved ones, which is what helped inspire the creation of Making Memories. We wanted to channel this passion and pay forward the love and support we felt to other families in need.”
Making Memories That Last Forever will collaborate with regional hospitals and healthcare systems across Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse to identify patient candidates for the program who are fighting pediatric cancer, living with disabilities, or facing other serious life-threatening conditions.
The nonprofit has already identified its first recipient through a partnership with John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, and the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation. The patient is a 4-year-old boy from Western New York who is battling a long-term illness that has required in-facility care on a sustained basis.
“We are extremely excited to partner with yet another dynamic corporate citizenship initiative in our community, again showing how much Western New Yorkers care about children’s health,” said Andrew Bennett, vice president of The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation. “We look forward to working with Making Memories and helping to advance the health and well-being of the children and families we care for at Oishei Children’s Hospital.”
